The 2018 FIFA World Cup starts tomorrow!

Tomorrow (June 14th) is the official start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup! And here’s some information we thought you should know!

First, The World Cup will kick off around 9 a.m. EST in the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Russia. The tournament will feature an opening ceremony which will include a performance from the West Philadelphia Fresh Prince himself, Will Smith! Smith will be performing the 2018 World Cup Anthem, “Live It Up” along with Nicky Jam and Era Istrefi. (Fun Fact! The song was produced by Temple University Alumni, Diplo!)

Following the ceremony, the first match will take place between the host nation, Russia, and Saudi Arabia. Thirty-two teams from around the world will be competing in the month-long tournament, which will conclude on July 15th. Unfortunately, for the first time since 1986, the United States men’s national team did not qualify for this years World Cup. But do not worry there are still plenty of other teams from around the globe to root for!

And last, but certainly not least, the 2018 FIFA World Cup Mascot is…

Zabivaka! Zabivaka is a soccer playing wolf and is the official mascot for the 2018 FIFA World Cup!
